While journeying home from a recent trip to choreograph and train the skaters at the new International Ice Academy of Colorado, I realized that Michelle Kwan just celebrated her 40th birthday. Boy, time flies.
I fondly remember working with Michelle on multiple programs back in the day. Those days, American skating was at the top and Michelle led the way for American women as a two-time Olympic medalist, 5-time World Champion and 9-time U.S. Champion. In honor of this milestone birthday, Dave Lease, of The Skating Lesson, selected this video of her “Hands” program to post on his Facebook page which I choreographed for Michelle. She was the Champion at the 2000 Japan Open and the Kerrie Lotion Classic skating to this program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqVXK8xdpV0&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR3_fpCsn1nZPZZgtmiLdPXnLww8vn9psku3jioMhN9PuaPPf0SCbl-2Xhg
Michelle was a joy to work with and endlessly gracious, not only as a champion, but as a student to work with. Her talents still amaze me to this very day. Happy Birthday Michelle. You are the epitome of style and beauty on and off of the ice.
The session is over and the Zamboni is coming out.
